To the modern Hindu Vedic, everything comes from the Vedas. Therefore, Tantra must have evolved from the Vedas. This is the position given by the writers of this article. However, the oldest of the Vedas, the Rg Veda, includes astrological information (part of Tantra), magickal rituals (part of Tantra), and other indicators that Tantra clearly came before the Vedas. There is other evidence, such as a seal discovered in pre-Hindu Harrapa which shows Shiva. There are Temples all over India dedicated to Shiva. Where are all the temples dedicated to the gods of the Vedas such as Indra? The Tantric deities still rule in India. - Shambhalanth , posted 03/25/09

A website on Tantra
First of all Tantra are extensions of the Vedic vision of Consciousness and yoga. How Tantra came into existence one should really read Shiva Dhristi of Somananda (700-800 AD) and Tantraloka of Abhinavagupta (1000 AD). According to records of these great yogins and tantrics, when the wisdom of Vedas were being lost, the Vedic Rishi requested Durvasa Rishi to preserve the Vedic practice of yoga for posterity. Accordingly, this Rishi handed this knowledge to his three sons and out which two became very famous i.e. Traymbaka system (popularised in the 20th century by the Maharaja of Kashmir as Kashmir Shaivsim) and the other the Kaula system. Tantra's teachings are purely yogic in nature. Now why I gave this site a negative vote because it lacks in the true dissemination of the Tantric wisdom. This site author is not even aware of the history of Tantra nor the texts properly. As far as Dus Mahavidyas are concerned they are the one and same creative force and according to the role it plays in the creation, it has been given various names. In the Vedas she is called Aditi, in the Upanishads she is known as Uma Haimavati, in the Bhagavadgita she is called Prakariti and so on. Another reason is that this site is concerned with occultism which is not the aim of Tantra. Such half baked knowledge has really harmed the Tantric system. - Taantrik , posted 01/19/08
